Jesus Came To Give Us Victory

JESUS CAME TO GIVE US VICTORY

By Rodney W. Francis

But thanks be to God, Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57). The purpose of Jesus’ coming to this world was to save and set free sinful and broken people so we could be made whole and live that abundant life that He has provided for us (John 10:10). God’s desire for you and me is that we might know and prove in our own individual lives the victory He purchased for us through His death, burial and resurrection. When Jesus comes into our hearts and lives in reality, then we change to become more like Him and to share in that victory He obtained for us.

  • Christianity is not having a set of religious beliefs, but a personal daily relationship with Jesus Christ Who is alive from the dead and now lives inside every true Christian believer.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

  • It is now “Christ in YOU, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27).

Once we have become born-again by the Holy Spirit, Jesus comes and takes up residence within us. That means that wherever we go, Jesus Christ goes with us! He has conquered ALL the powers of sin, darkness and the devil so we can know that victory which He has purchased for us. The more we yield ourselves to Him, the more we will experience and see demonstrated in and through us His love, grace, power and glory. Herein is where many Christians have a huge battle. They struggle to experience the reality of the “risen Christ within” and so go through life with their problems still causing them to not personally experience the victory that Jesus came to give them. We have to yield our old natural self, thinking and ways over to Jesus, because the way of following Jesus is very different to anything else we have ever known.

LEARN TO BE LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

We have to learn to be led by the Holy Spirit, as that is the only way we can be free of the works of the flesh:

“Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery (“sex outside of marriage”), fornication (“sexual immorality”), uncleanness (“impurity”), lewdness (“excess”), idolatry (“worship of idols”), sorcery (“witchcraft; spells”), hatred (“enmity”), contentions (“strife, quarrels”), jealousies (“zeal in a bad sense”), outbursts of wrath (“anger”), selfish ambitions (“party spirit; factions”), dissensions (“a standing apart”), heresies (“a contrary opinion to the truth”), envy (“the word is always used in a bad sense; jealousy of another’s success”), murders (“killing of another human being”), drunkenness (“strong drink”), revelries (“a carousing or merry making after supper”), and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God”.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love (“love in its fullest conceivable form”), joy (“delight, gladness”), peace (“rest; the absence or end of strife”), longsuffering (“patient endurance”), kindness (“goodness that shows itself in gentleness”), goodness (“the quality of him who is ruled by kindness and aims at the good, moral worth”), faithfulness (“a firmly relying confidence in what we hear from God in His word”), gentleness (“meekness; enduring all things with an even temper”), self-control (“the grace by which the flesh is controlled”). Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16-25).

CHRISTIANITY IS VERY DIFFERENT

We see, then, by the above Scriptures that Biblical Christianity is very different to the ways of the flesh and the world. The flesh has to “die to self” in order that the new life of Jesus Christ can work and shine through in our lives. It does not work for us to be part flesh and part Holy Spirit. The “old man” has to die. That is something that is easier to say than to do! Mixture makes us powerless ~ hence why there are so many problems amongst Christians these days. We have to be more committed to Jesus Christ than to religious traditions, habits, etc.

I have been a born-again, Holy Spirit-filled believer for almost 60 years. I have seen so many things that have come and gone in Christian circles. Sadly, many of those ideas and teachings have left Christians with bigger problems than when they first gave their lives to Jesus. Right now we are seeing and hearing of Christians whose lives are in a mess, full of bondages, bad relationships, wounded spirits, etc., all very sad.

  • Christians have to know that the only answer to all our problems is through Jesus Christ, His work on the Cross and all He accomplished for us so we can live in His victory.
  • We have to believe what the Bible teaches us more than our feelings, bad experiences, criticisms, rejections, and so many other things.
  • Jesus went through all those things for us so we can know and live in His wonderful victory.

He can do no more for us in that regard ~ we have to believe, accept and rely on what He has purchased through His shed blood; and through believing in what He has done for us, we can rise up above every obstacle that been blocking us from true victory. If, after yielding our all to Jesus, we still battle with issues, hurts, etc., then seek out a Holy Spirit-filled believer in Jesus Christ and get them to pray and release your spirit to receive the victory that Jesus has provided for you. Jesus is no respecter of persons; He loves you as much as anyone else (Acts 10:34-38).

  • It is God’s will for you to live in the victory that Jesus Christ has obtained for YOU!
  • Don’t let the enemy rob you any longer!
  • You are saved to live in His victory! Every day!

Consider these Scriptures:

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” (see Romans 8:26-39).

The question is: “Do we believe the Bible more than our own feelings and experiences?” God so loves us that the Holy Spirit is praying for us so that we will know the reality and joy of being made more like Jesus and living in His victory daily. Jesus desires that we will rise up above every obstacle that gets in our way, so we can be those “more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). Jesus wants only the very best for you! Today, you can rise up in His victory and know a quality of life you have not known before. Yield your all to Jesus and see what He will do for you. Be prepared to trust what Jesus says about you, make any necessary changes and see how things will improve for you. God bless you ~ Rodney W. Francis.
