God's Will or My Will?
GOD’s Will?
or
My Will? By Rodney W. Francis
For the Christian believer it is very important that each of us personally knows the will of God for our life. Jesus saves us for a specific purpose, and the will of God being outlived in and through us personally is that purpose. We accomplish so much more when we know our calling and are walking and living in it. The prophetic calling on the Apostle Paul’s life was: “The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth. For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard” (Acts 22:14-15). That same prophetic calling applies to every one of us who believe Jesus! When we know God’s calling and purpose for our life, then we are able to prepare more specifically, be motivated with an assurance that we are doing what God desires of us, and it generates faith to believe for a future that is God-blessed, God-ordained and God will give us fruit that cannot come any other way than through the doing of God’s will.

God works in wonderful ways when we are doing His will!
We have not been called to be a “copy-cat ministry” of someone else. God has a unique calling and purpose for every one of us as individuals. When we do what God has called us to do, then we accomplish results that are God-glorifying and that will be far beyond any natural ability we have. For me, knowing the will of God for my life has motivated me over many years and enabled me to accomplish far greater results than I could have imagined. All Praise, honour and glory to Jesus!
WE MUST FORSAKE ALL THAT WE HAVE
Sadly, we have observed that there are many Christians who do not know the will of God for their lives. They live in hope rather than faith, and somehow think that God is going to drop a revelation into them and it will all change one day. In my travels I have had Christians say to me: “I wish I knew God’s will for my life”; or “I have never heard the voice of God”. To me this is very sad. Our first responsibility as a Christian should be to yield our will ~ and all that we have ~ to the will of God. Jesus said: “So Likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavour, how shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (see Luke 14:25-35).
Christianity never works when there is only a half-hearted commitment. There is no true power or authority in a half-hearted person. The Holy Spirit does not speak to those who are not fully committed to doing the will of God. He leads and guides us into all truth (John 16:13-15). The will of God is the truth of God for us. If you are one who is struggling to know the will of God for your life, then I encourage you to take some time to get alone with God, still your spirit before Him and listen for Him to speak to you.
-
He desires to speak with you more than you realize.
-
Take time to get into the Scriptures; for the Scriptures are the only true confirmation of the voice of God speaking to us. God never violates His word.
-
His word is recorded in the Scriptures, the Bible.
-
When He speaks to you, seek to obey as soon as possible what He is saying to you.
-
When you do that, you will be releasing the voice of God in a practical way that will see your life rise up into new realms with Him.
It needs to be said here that God does not violate our will. We have to voluntarily lay down our will to God and ask Him to reveal His will to us. This will cost us, but the benefits that follow will far outweigh any thoughts and reasonings that we may struggle with in our minds. JESUS IS LORD AND HE MUST BE “NUMBER ONE” in each of our lives. He does not take second place. He does not fit into our plans; we must fit in to His plans! This is not as easy as we often think. For up until that point in time of yielding fully to Him, our will has been our security. We need to see that in God’s eyes, it is a false security, and Jesus has come to give us true security that will see our lives blossom and become so much more fruitful for God’s glory when we know His will for our lives and are doing it.
WE ARE CALLED TO BE LABOURERS IN GOD’S HARVEST FIELDS
Doing God’s will is far more than faithfully attending Christian Church meetings. Many people in churches these days are not doing God’s will. Jesus is looking for labourers to help gather in the ripened harvest NOW ~ but there is a reluctance amongst Christian believers to offer themselves totally to Jesus to help gather in that harvest. Listen to what the Scripture says: “Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest’” (Matthew35-38).
The labourers have to be the followers of Jesus! Jesus is sharing His heart and will in these verses; yet the Christians are reluctant to respond and offer themselves for the gathering in of the harvest. Their will has not been yielded to the will of God. The result is that the harvest gets lost and wasted! And that is very sad.
-
All around the world right now the harvest is ripe for the gathering.
-
But the labourers are few.
-
Does this not concern you?
-
It does me.
-
Let us all arise up higher and get closer to Jesus so we can clearly hear His voice to us and allow Him to direct us to that part of the harvest that we can effectively gather it in.
The Scriptures exhort and challenge us: “I beseech (“urge”) you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:1-2, NKJV). The Good News Translation Bible says this: “So then, my friends, because of God’s great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to His service and pleasing to Him. This is the true worship that you should offer. Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God – what is good and pleasing to Him and is perfect”.
It is clear from this Scripture that God not only wants us to know His will, but to prove it; to know it without doubt so we are not wasting time and even years hoping, when we can know it without doubt.
May we all be encouraged to make sure that we are no doubt about the will and calling of God for our lives.
-
We have been saved for a specific purpose.
-
When we are fulfilling that purpose, then we are accomplishing things in time that will last for all eternity.
-
What an honour! What a privilege!
-
To know that God so believes in us that He trusts us with the outworking and fulfilling of His will and purposes through our lives in these days!
God bless you richly!
