What Is Your Vision?
What Is Your Vision? By Rodney W. Francis Personal vision is vital if we are going to move forwards in God. It must be captured before it can be fulfilled: Then the Lord answered me and said, “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. But though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry . . . but the just will live by his faith” (Habakkuk 2:2-4, NKJV). “Where there is no revelation (“prophetic vision”), the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law” (Proverbs 29:18). The Message Bible says this: “If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; but when they attend to what He reveals, they are most blessed.” I personally believe the prophetic foundation given to Paul at the beginning of His Christian walk are the same principles every Christian needs to fulfill New Covenant Christianity: “The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will, and see the Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth. For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard” (Acts 22:14-15). I also encourage you to make a fresh study of 1 Corinthians Chapter 2. PERSONAL VISION MOVES US FORWARDS Having a personal vision for your life is very important if you are going to go forwards in your Christian walk. It is not good enough to simply follow someone else’s vision or dream. Without a clear vision for your own life you will “cast off restraint” and start to live carelessly. So many opportunities will be lost when you are not motivated with the vision of God for your life. Without a vision, not only will other people miss out on what God has ordained for them (through your vision), but you will get caught up in a careless, spiritual decay that will lead to your not accomplishing anything much to the glory of God. We are living in days when Christians need to be in right relationship with God and people, and knowing the purpose for which Jesus Christ has laid a hold of us. When we know the vision of God for our life and are walking in it, then we are motivated and fulfilled in life like nothing else can satisfy. The GFM Ministry is my vision from God and has motivated me and consumed my life for more than 48 years. And it continues to grow and motivate me (at the time of writing we are touching people in 110 nations)! It is a faith ministry (as God spoke to us and told us to live this way). It is wonderful every month to see the Lord provide and every bill get paid. At the same time we are able to impact many thousands of lives around the world. A vision that is real produces a faith that works! None of this would be happening if I had not caught the vision of God for my life. Vision has to be captured and brought in to a practical outworking reality. It is more than a confession of a vision. The vision has to be confirmed and proven (that it is of God). It also has to be protected (from those who think we should be doing otherwise), and released to function in a way that gives honour and glory to God. As The GFM Ministry has grown, others have caught the vision as well, and today we are privileged to have a faithful band of committed, volunteer workers who are helping us to touch many thousands of lives round the world. It has been a wonderful journey with Jesus Christ to see how something from very small beginnings can grow to impact many thousands around the world. Your vision can grow too! KNOW YOUR PROPHETIC FOUNDATION One of the things that has made The GFM Ministry to succeed and continue over all these years is because we have stuck to the Prophetic Foundation of what God called us to do at the beginning. Before The GFM was even launched God gave me these words: “If you will get to know My voice, and will do what I ask you, there is nowhere in this world where you and I cannot go together – and we not be successful.” Those words were sealed in my heart and spirit, and have been the major motivating desire of my life ever since. Over and over again I have been able to prove the truth and power of those words. It was through the voice of God that The GFM Ministry was started, and it was through the voice of God that the various avenues of ministry have been launched. Usually what God has said was not my thinking and I had not thought of it before. But because I have come to know when God is speaking to me, I know I can do whatever He asks of me (God never asks us to do what we cannot do ~ we can always do what He asks!). I encourage you to take the time to write out the answers to the following questions. They are designed to help you to fulfill your vision in God. Your Name: _______________________________________________ Date: _____________ What do you believe the vision of God is for your life? (Please write it down): What have you done about your vision? Can you describe how you think you can fulfil your vision? Long Term (in five to ten years time)? Medium Term (the next five years)? Short Term (the next two years)? Can you write your vision in a one-sentence statement? Do you recognize the obstacles to your vision being fulfilled? If so, what are you doing to eliminate them?
